How do you internally use metalayer?

Within our team, most of the communication takes place over the layer. We do implementation and bug tracking, change communication and code responses, all on the layer. All in all, I guess about 90% of our communication takes place on the layer - even small talk. My team is developing the core of metalayer 1.0 - so, changes in our code affect all other teams immediately. It just gets too complicated and slow to have several meetings a week with all the software engineers, and it would definitely slow down our innovation process, to do physical meetings with everyone. On the layer, we can inform and ensure that everyone is informed within a very short time. We get the responses very fast, if our new proposed code conflicts with another module or if there is any better idea to implement. I guess no other tool would provide us with that speed!

What have been the benefits of working over a platform like this?

We have improved our code quality and are now used to getting varied responses for our solutions - which helps us refine and improve the core and all other modules. The transparency the layer gives helps us to be informed at every time, what the other teams are working on, thus bringing all teams and finally the whole metalayer 1.0 together.

What about existing systems like ERP and CRM?

I would like to stress upon the open architecture of metalayer 1.0 - it provides plug-in interfaces and a very high flexibility. Existing systems can be easily integrated into metalayer. metalayer 1.0 is actually not anymore a product, but just a platform, a layer of integration. This unique architecture, makes metalayer the ideal solution for a extremely flexible virtual workplace.

Does the solution have a Content Management Solution?

All content in metalayer is treated as a metalayer object. This makes it possible to support unstructured team communications. Also 'metaword' allows the user to create documents online. Furthermore, we are developing a tool called "metasite", which gives you the possibility to easily create web sites.

How is collaboration good for your individual development? How is it working with such high levels of transparency?

In the beginning it seems absurd working in a very transparent manner. The usual tendency of employees is to protect their own knowledge and sharing of this knowledge is taken to be akin to losing one's power. Working in metalayer, the benefits of working collaboratively win quickly any learning individual over. You will be surprised if you could measure the fraction by which learning improves while working in a collaborative environment.
