MPP
– metalayer Personal Portal (Listing of Hubs)
If
a person is a member of more than one Community Hub, it is
possible to list all Hubs here, and then to enter them with
a single logon. In addition, one can easily see to which Hub
new items have been added. metalayer 1.0 will have an advanced
Personal Portal, which can be personalized by the user and
used as a window to all the community hubs.
MCH
– metalayer Community Hub – (Hub Specific Comties),
The
Community Hub(s) is where the action is. This is where discussions
start, meetings are held, URLs listed, presentations given,
and videos presented, among other things.
Times
Page – Your daily newspaper of recent activities
on the Hub
The
Times Page is where you begin. It shows you what has been
added since you were last online. It is not necessary to read
everything before one starts to interact, and interaction
can take place right on the Times Page, it is automatically
also inserted in the Comty.
MOB
– metalayer Object Builder
The
next release of metalayer (1.0) will include the metalayer
Object Builder. This will make it possible for any user to
individually personalize their IdeaWeaver™ Shuttle and other
aspects of metalayer.

NEW USER ORIENTATION
Helps
new users to overcome that initial anxiety: how does it work
and what if I make a mistake?
The
metalayer IDEAWEAVER ™ Shuttle
-
The
IdeaWeaver™ Shuttle is the new way of inserting content
within the context of the discussion. There are no standard
sections in the Comty and there are no restrictions on
adding any object in any section. (E.g. you can add file
object as comment to the news object
-
To
add new content (a Discussion, File, Message, etc.), place
your cursor (arrow) at the selected point below the heading
and left click your mouse. The Shuttle will automatically
appear.
-
To add content within the context of any object, click
on the object to get the Shuttle and select the desired
object you’d like to use from the Shuttle to add content.
-
Top
of Shuttle: On the Shuttle you will find several options
on the blue bar at the top (these objects are described
in the section below on "Generally Used Objects").
If the option you want is not there, click the "More"
item and a drop-down menu will appear. Click on the Object
desired and it will appear. If an Object does not appear
in the drop-down list, write it into the white box.
-
If
you have created an input, it is easy to edit. Place your
cursor on the item and left click. Then choose the "Edit"
option on the left top of the shuttle. In this way you
can edit items, or even delete them by clicking on the
"Archive" option at the bottom of the shuttle.
It is that easy!
-
To minimize the Shuttle click on the red coloured button
on the top bar on the extreme right side of the Shuttle.
To bring back the Shuttle, again left click on the object.
Remember, the Shuttle is context sensitive so depending on
where you are and what you want to do, it will look slightly
different.
Bottom of Shuttle: You will quickly realize there are
also options at the bottom of the Shuttle. Some become visible
when you return to an item and select the Edit function on
the top of the shuttle. When you do this, you can use the
following options:
-
Archive – to delete an item
-
Restrict
Access
This is the way to set something as "Private"
where only people you choose can see it or participate
in it if it is a Meeting. In this way you can easily set
up a Private Meeting that only those invited can see and
interact with. Or you can leave it "Public"
so all can see and interact with it.
-
Move – with this command you can move content,
an item, a section, or a sub-comty.
-
Alert
- use the Alert option to send someone an eMail or SMS
alert. In this way, it is easy to notify a colleague of
something important happening in the Comty.

MADE
A MISTAKE, NO PROBLEM!

and follow the instructions. Click at the appropriate point,
then select Edit and either edit the item or delete it using
the Archive option at the bottom of the Shuttle
THE CLICKING SOUND, TURN IT OFF

Sounds (top tab), scroll down to "Window Explorer"
and indented below it click on "Start Navigator".
When you click on this, the Sounds scroll down opens up just
below, select "None"and this will turn off the clicking
sound as the system refreshed every two seconds.

REFERENCE
ITEMS ON THE TOP BANNER OF THE COMTY OR TIMES PAGE
The reference items appear as clickable items in the upper
right heading of the Comty or Times page. In using metalayer,
you start with the Times page. Like reading the "London
Times", the Times page brings you the latest inputs to
one’s Comty and sub-Comties in which you have chosen to participate.
It is also most appropriate to respond to an input right on
the Times page, as it is automatically entered into the referenced
Comty. If you wish to see the comment in the context of the
Comty, either click on its name in the grey bar, or click
on Comties in the top bar in the right. Please note, the selection
of clickable items varies slightly between the Comty and the
Times pages because they are context sensitive.
ADDRESS
BOOK (on Comty)
The Address Book shows you the members of the Comty and their
status.
COMTIES
(on Times Page)
The
Comties item in the upper right is a way to move to the main
Comty of which you are a part.
HELP
(on Comty)
At
first, make heavy use of the Help option. It will open a window
and then you can click on any of the “Objects,” the various
functions available in metalayer for explanations.
MY
PROFILE (on Times Page)
Soon
after joining a Comty, please click on My Profile and fill
it out as much as possible. We suggest you choose your own
password, instead of the one given when you were first invited
to the Comty. Please include your eMail. Why? If someone wants
to send you a private message, they click on your name when
you are online. Your bizcard will appear with your eMail address.
They will then click on the eMail and can then send you an
eMail directly. If you would like to receive SMS', please
include your Mobile Phone number. Once you have filled in
everything, click "Submit". It is always possible
to return and make any further changes.
ONLINE
MEMBERS (on Times Page)
In order to quickly see who might be online at the same time
as you are, click on Online Members. If you wish to have a
chat with any of these members, click on the [meet] sign to
the right of their name and a Meeting window will open
SEARCH
(on both the Comty and Times Page)
metalayer
makes available a powerful search function so that you can
search for a person by name or for a word or key phrase.
SIGN
OUT (on both the Comty and Times Page) Please remember
to sign out (log off) after each session, other wise there
may be confusion the next time you try logging on.
TIMES
(on Comty) The Times page, your Personal Page, as explained
above, is your starting point for the session. Here you can
quickly see all the new contributions that have been made
since you were last online. And it is most appropriate to
respond to any item on the Times page. What ever you do on
the Times page will be also shown on the Comty.
By
now you would have an idea of the metalayer structure an environment.
The next sub-sections describe in detail the various common
and administrative objects.
