The
Lonely Web
|
"I've
always asked myself, why web sites are so lonely. If
I enter a company, there is always somebody to receive
me and help me to find the right person or information.
Cant we build websites in the same way?
metaSite
provides a platform to create living places on the web,
where people can see and interact with each other, synchronously
as well as asynchronously and anywhere on the site,
within the context".

If
you go to a website of a leading company, there is a lot of
hyper-linked content, organized in a logical structure. A
search function helps you to find content with key words -
But what if you dont find what you are looking for immediately?
There is no one around to help you out. So, you would go to
the contact page and maybe you find there a contact form or
an email address. You mail your request and shortly after
you receive a reply: "Many thanks for your interest in
our company. This is an automatic reply, We will revert back
to you within a few days ...". You wait for some days.
There may be no reply at all, or you may receive an email
after a few days with more static content. You finally lose
the context and move on.
People
and Knowledge
The web is full of Information and data. Knowledge
however is content as well as people. Knowledge
is applied and understood information, with the ability to act.
If Knowledge is separated from
people, it becomes Information and data only. The key to Knowledge
is not information or people but both together.
We
see so much of content on the web and we feel alone and confused.
Information in itself has no value as long as it is not discussed,
questioned, developed and understood. Out of context and non-interactive
Knowledge is dead and becomes
useless information. Knowledge
becomes alive within conversations, if we discuss, question,
form opinions, and try it out.
If
you visit a company, there is a receptionist who takes care
of you, discusses with you the questions, connects you to
the relevant people for more detailed interactions, or gives
you brochures, papers and other ready-made content. Whenever
you have any questions, you just go back to the reception
and ask for assistance. The web today is like a big exposition
hall or a big library, without receptionists and without librarians.
Living
Knowledge on a metaSite

"The
Internet is all about 'The emergence of new Social Online
Networks' - not isolated from each other - The simple
and great ability to respond TO and interact collectively
WITH people and companies directly within the context.
The Internet is all about talking to each other".

metaSite
brings people and content together. metaSite gives everyone
the possibility to discuss Knowledge
in real time and asynchronously. Websites are communication
environments and not just information sources. Imagine
how simpler, and more accessible information would be,
if you are able to instantly weave your ideas at any
point, see the weaving of co-visitors and co-create
new ideas. Understanding emerges from interacting with
real people. metaSite builds new intelligent communication
in the networked business economy and allows a natural
dialogue in context. metaSite is the next conversational
environment on the web where conversations can be held
anywhere without bothering to open separate chat-windows
or going out of context.

"There
is a difference between Organizations as "WE READ
ABOUT THEM and Organizations as "WE MEET
THEM - Companies will not become Human by monologues
about how important customers are to them, or by making
nice sounding butter layered promises. They will only
sound human when they empower real human beings to speak
on their behalf, and speak within themselves - and this
is what metalayer's extended collaborative Enterprise-Solutions
are all about. You are online - and you are not alone!".

How
to work with
metaSite - by Rupali
Buchake - Technical Team Leader, metaSite
The
metaSite module allows anyone or any team to co-create
living web sites, without any technical know how. Simply
take a page template or create one in your favourite
HTML designer. You may add places for dynamic content
anywhere within your page template.
Now,
you are able to create your metaSite by simply adding
the different metalayer objects: navigate to the root.
Place your shuttle and select a 'PAGE' object. Copy
and paste the html into your PAGE form. Place your shuttle
at any position in your page and add some TEXT objects,
IMAGE, KITEM, DISCUSSION or any other metalayer objects.
You are able to co-create and modify everything on the
fly.
You
may then define the rights on the different objects
by the roles you give. You may choose for example the
role 'observer' for all visitors on all the pages. An
observer is able to submit content, but only authors
and admins (the co-creators or the support team) are
able to see the content and can approve it for general
visibility. And you could create a forum area, where
signed-up members get provider rights. You may also
set up any restricted areas, sections, or single objects
within your site.
Finally,
you may create a reception, which you open, if any one
of the creators, the admins or a support team is online.
And you may add alert objects on different events to
the different pages, sections or single objects, if
any person posts a first message into the reception.
You can also add global alert objects to generate an
alert, whenever any person posts anywhere within the
site.
Just
try it out, and you will see: it is very simple!
